Why Sell Online?

According to the researcher, Verdict, a online shopping spend in the UK is growing by 10%+ a year and is forecast to account for 17.1% of total retail sales by 2020 – that’s £62.7bn.

Amazon’s sales growth has far outstrippedthat over the last decade, having grown by 20%+ annually during that period.Global e-commerce consultancy Salmon reckons 37% of all money spent online goes to Amazon. Although they don’t supply sales figures split vy country, we do know that UK consumers are the sixth biggest per capita online shoppers in the world. Plus, over 45% of Amazon’s sales are made via third-party sellers.

And , in 2015 and 2016, Amazon.co.uk was crowned the best British company for coustomers service by the Instituteof Coustomer Service, beating the likes of John Lewis and First Direct. Its range of products, compelling prices and unrivalled logistics operation means they are likely to get an increasingly large slice of the pie. And, as a fba seller, you get to trade off Amazon’s reputation.

Amazon coustomers are willing to pay higher prices for new products compared to eBay coustomers. That means you can charge more for your products. There are numerous reasons for this:

  • The quality of the listings- eBay still looks like a bit like a car boot sale. eBay is where coustomers search for one-off oddities. But if,they want new, quality products they’ll head to Amazon.
  • Amazon’s rating system is mainly product focused- excellent customer service is a given.
  • Amazon also protects coustomers with their A to Z Guarantee. It’s easy to return products and tp get refunds.
  • Amazon coustomers can make changes to orders prior to shipment and can track orders online.
  • Gift-wrap – Amazon will gift-wrap for coustomers. That includes your FBA products.
  • It’s easier to shop on Amazon – Each individual product has just one listing ( even if there are numerous sellers ).
  • Buy now with 1-Click –This feature allows coustomers to complete their purchase with, litterlly, a touch of a button. It’s a particularly good feature on Amazon’s Mobile App.
  • Mobile-friendly – Amazon’s Mobile App burns eBay’s. It’s far easier to use. This is important as, although the data available varies, it’s safe to say that almost 40% of e-commerce is now mobile( up from just over 30% last year).
  • No PayPal – PayPal adds another layer to the Buying process for Ebay Coustomers. People with money tend to be time poor. And that extra layer of complication is turn-off.
  • Prime – Of course. Prime coustomers love Prime.’Nuff said.
